Pope Schenouda III was not only the spiritual leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church for over 40 years. He was a role model and inspiration. He was a poet and writer. What he wrote and taught, was based on many years of spiritual experience - including 13 years as a hermit in the desert of Egypt. Pope Schenouda III lived and practiced monastic life even before he went to the monastery in 1957.
With what he said and wrote, Pope III Schenouda touched the deepest beliefs of many people for generations. Through his poems, texts and sermons, many have become monks or priests, including Bishop Gabriel, Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Austria and German speaking Switzerland.
We mourn at the loss of our great inspirer.
We mourn at the loss of His Holiness Pope Schenouda III, who with his words, his thoughts and with his life was our role model and inspiration.
